I am designing and developing a system that will help to manage and follow all the projects in a company.
From my point of view a project life cycle ends when the project is no longer being used, up to that time all the interactions for this project should be recorded and can be listed when needed.

By the help of this system a project will be followed up with all its sub topics which is considered as a different project in some systems. This leads to gather information when needed from different systems which causes problems to match the information.
When you can follow a project a one form with different tabs regarding different sub topics like change management, request management, call center, support activities, development schedules etc will be much more easy to report or follow up for a project manager.

There are many systems that solves almost all the requests. They all are working in seperate environments and even systems and even databases are different. This means a project manager should gather information from different points which cause to spend more time. In my system all reporting can be done by just clicking a button or selecting topics to be included in the report.

Managing a project differes from sales point of view or lets say from a developement point of view. Sales person considers a sale as a project till the sale is done, but up to that time they want to follow like all the meeting notes, prices discussed etc.
A developer consider a development as a project till the request is developed, tested and goes live, they want to follow up the additional requests, errors, changes and also may want to clasify them according to urgency of the topic.
They all will be followed up in one form under that project with different levels of permisions.

I can easily point out that after 30 years of experience about IT in different sectors, investing to cheap systems may seems to solve the problems in short time, but in mid and long term point of view you have to invest 3 times the price of the so called expensive systems at the beginning.

Avrually these problematic times may have their opportunity in it also. Business may become slower, so there will be no or minimal requests from business meaning IT managers can turn back to their internal problems much more than before.

Companies which invested to IT without trying to make any kind of economy to reorganize their IT systems had always gain positive results.

In 30 years of my experience, owners or top level managers ended up sayin to me 'At the beginning we had doubts about the prices of the recommended systems, but after getting the results our trust build up'.
